Welcome to the ONLY Jimmy Vivino official website!

A Twitter experiment...

Here's an experiment to see which Twitter feeds we can pick up about Jimmy. So far, it's mainly about Conan. Obviously, the Twitter audience is not exactly Jimmy's audience, but let's see what happens.

Jimmy with Hubert Sumlin

Jimmy played with Hubert Sumlin on a "Rockin' the River" cruise during a beautiful New York summer night on August 19th. Thanks to photographer Frank Beacham for the photo.

Jimmy returns to New York again to play with Felix Cabrera

Jimmy played with Felix Cabrera on June 25th at the Turning Point in Piedmont, New York. Here's another fine photo taken by pro Bernard Ente, a frequent contributor to this site. We see Jimmy in a comtemplative mood.

Jimmy and the Fab Faux performing Abbey Road live!

This is a really high-quality video of the Fab Faux performing most of side 2 (of the LP) of Abbey Road for the Howard Stern show at Sirius studios.

There are no overdubs whatsoever in this incredible performance. Each song was recorded in one to three takes. Only three minor guitar fixes were made. The videography and the sound mix is quite intimate and really gets you "in close" with the Faux.

Credits: Mix: Joe Chinnici; Video Director/Editor: Robert Noonan; Ass't Videographer: Luke Noonan.

Jimmy back in New York yet again with Felix Cabrera

Jimmy played with Felix Cabrera on April 3rd at the Turning Point in Piedmont, New York. Here's a really wonderful shot of a very happy-looking Jimmy taken by pro Bernard Ente, a frequent contributor to this site. (And let me tell you, it's almost impossible to take a decent picture at the Turning Point.)

Al Kooper at B.B. Kings Feb 5

Al played February 5th at B.B. King's performing some solo numbers, with the Danny Kalb Trio, with singer Kristina Train (accompanied by Fab Faux member Jack Petruzelli), with the Prisoners of 2nd Avenue and with the Funky Faculty. Whew!! Here's some photos by Bernard Ente (Click for larger versions).

Jimmy featured on new CD

Jimmy is featured on Felix Cabrera's new CD, "Live at the Turning Point". This CD was recorded at the Turning Point Cafe in Piermont, New York on June 1, 2007 and features ten great live tracks. Playing with Jimmy and Felix is Eddy Bishai, Phil Butler and Bill Schroeder (posted 9/11/2009)

Art Holiday’s documentary on Johnnie Johnson progressing

As reported here some time ago, Art Holiday is producing a documentary on the great Johnny Johnson, the man who discovered Chuck Berry and is one of the largely uncredited founding fathers of rock and roll.

Art reports that he’s completed interviews with Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, the late Bo Diddley, Taylor Hackford, Bruce Hornsby, Buddy Guy, Paul Shaffer, Al Kooper, John Sebastian, Johnny Rivers, Dr. John, Chuck Leavell, Steve Jordan, Joe Perry, Eddie Money, Lou Gossett, Malcolm McDowell, Ian McLagan and of course, Jimmy Vivino.

Jimmy

Jimmy says the following about Johnnie: "It’s just how Johnnie can play around the lead or the lead guitar or whatever’s going on. The spots he finds, man. It’s like a pitcher that find the corner of that plate, man. Not just throwing it down the middle, he finds, he gets that corner and gets your attention right away. It’s something I’m afraid I’ll never experience again with another piano player."

Jimmy

Here's the great 1995 CD that Jimmy produced for Johnnie (along with performers Mike Merritt, James Wormworth and guests Phoebe Snow, Max Weinberg, Jerry Vivino, Buddy Guy, Al Kooper, John Sebastian, Bobb Jay and Steve Jordan.) Unfortunately, it's been discontinued, but if you search around, you can probably find a copy. It's worth searching for...it's a great record.
